British boxer Nick Blackwell has woken up from his medically induced coma, a week on from his fight with Chris Eubank Jnr.
Blackwell, 25, was taken straight to hospital following his 10th round defeat to Eubank Jnr on Saturday night.
The former middleweight champion was said to be ‘talking with friends and family’ on Sunday at his bedside.
Promoters Hennessey Sports said:
“It was the outcome everyone had been hoping and praying for; Nick had won his toughest fight yet,”
Blackwell was pictured with friends and family, sitting upright, humbling millions of sports fans around the world.
Hennessey Sports also claimed that contrary to belief, Blackwell had suffered bleeding on the skull and not his brain, meaning there was no need to operate.
With a long way to full recovery, the promoters also thanked the continued worldwide support:
“On behalf of Nick, his family, and very close friends, we’d like to thank everyone for their continued support and well-wishes. It has been overwhelming at times and has certainly not gone unnoticed.”
