The first modern Olympics commenced on April 6th of 1896 in Athens, Greece, and have been held every four years since then.

For more than a century now, these games have consisted of many of the events that people have come to know and love.

However, there are other events that have tried and failed to stick in the games, some of them quite bizarre. Let’s check out 15 of the weirdest sports to ever be featured in the Summer Olympics, some of which will even be featured in Rio in just a few weeks.

1. Tug-of-War

And you just thought it was something you did in High School during gym class! Nope! This was an actual Olympic event until 1932. Apparently the United Kingdom always cleaned clocks on this one.

2. Club Swinging

Also discontinued as an Olympic event after 1932, club swinging is a little more than what you think it might be. Yes, you swing clubs to throw them. But you also get points for the acrobatic routine that goes into to swinging those clubs… We wish this one would make a comeback!
