In February 2009 photos of Phelps smoking marijuana surfaced online, causing him to lose his sponsorship with Kelloggs and a three-month suspension from USA Swimming. Not many know this, but Phelps was also arrested in 2004 when he was 19 for driving under the influence of alcohol.
When Romania’s Andreea Raducan got a cold during the 2000 games her coach gave her a nasal spray called pseudophedrine. While it made her feel better and meant she went on to win a gold medal, the pseudophedrine is in the family of amphetamine meaning she was disqualified and stripped of her medals.
