McIlroy’s cop car dash

McIlroy almost missed his 2012 Ryder Cup singles match when he got confused about the timezones. Thankfully a police car was on hand to offer him a lift to Medinah. “I think I got here at 11.14, so I had 11 minutes to spare to put my shoes on, hit a couple of putts and go,” he said afterwards. It’s a good thing he did make it as he beat Keegan Bradley 2&1 in a memorable win. Apparently Ian Poulter now owns that car.

That Tiger reaction

Tiger couldn’t keep his feelings a secret when the expected dream pairing between himself and Mickelson ended up being a disaster in the 2004 Ryder Cup. Both pairs were square on the 18th tee in a foursomes match against Darren Clarke and Le Westwood, when Mickelson sliced one right up against a fence. Woods was clearly unimpressed, and it’s no surprise that it was USA’s most embarrassing Ryder Cup defeat.
