Faldo’s unforgettable speech
This has to be one of the most excruciating Ryder Cup moments. In 2008, Faldo used his speech at Valhalla as an opportunity to praise his son’s good looks, pretty much beg Hollywood to give his daughter a job, introduced Ulsterman Graeme McDowell as “one of the Irelands”, and then went on to say Padraig Harrington had “hit more golf balls than potatoes grown in Ireland.”
This shot is often regarded as one of the greatest shots in Ryder Cup history. It was taken when Christy O’Connor Jr’s 229-yard shot landed on the green and ran up to the correct tier, ending just 4 foot from the pin.
