Model Ashley Graham has made history by becoming the first ever ‘plus-size’ model to feature on the front cover of Sports Illustrated.
Graham, 28, is a size-16 model and will feature on one of the three available covers for 2016’s Swimsuit issue.
Not only is Graham the first plus-sized model but she also becomes one of the first rookie Sports Illustrated models to feature on the front cover of the annual Swimsuit issue.
Graham took to Instagram to express her delight in being Sports Illustrated cover girl:
“This cover is for every woman who felt like she wasn’t beautiful enough because of her size. You can do and achieve anything you put your mind to.”
“Thank you so much to the entire @si_swimsuit team!”
Readers can also choose a cover with MMA’s Ronda Rousey or model Hailey Clauson.
Former UFC Champion Ronda Rousey returns to Sports Illustrated having featured in 2015’s issue.
However, this time she is literally wearing no clothing, but is wearing body paint in her sexy shoot.
Clauson also took to Instagram to express her gratitude:
“I’m so incredibly excited, honestly words can’t describe how grateful I am.
“I have worked my butt off and never gave up on my dream! Thank you so much for making my dreams come true tonight @mj_day I have so much love for you!”
SI’s assistant managing editor, MJ Day claims the three covers celebrate a new era for the Swimsuit issue:
“All three women are beautiful, sexy and strong. Beauty is not cookie cutter. Beauty is not ‘one size fits all’. Beauty is all around us and that became especially obvious to me while shooting and editing this year’s issue.”
The three covers will be available to buy from tomorrow (Tuesday 16th Februay 2016).
