HIV/Aids is an awful disease and in only recent years have medical advances lead to relative success in treatments.

Since it’s discovery in 1960, the disease has taken over 5 million lives around the world.

1. Greg Louganis

Diver Louganis was diagnosed with the disease in 1988 just before the Olympics.

Now in his mid-50s, Louganis is serving as an activist and supporter of HIV awareness.

2. Ji Wallace

Australian gymnast Ji Williams announced he had AIDS in 2012.

Wallace who won an Olympic silver in Sydney 2000 is a proud fighter and ambassador.
